** Update 14 November **

Thanks again to all of the customers who gave us their thoughts about pets here on our Our Voice page. We're now planning to ask the same survey questions of particular groups of customers. These customers have either contacted Great Places recently to ask for permission to have a pet, or have contacted us to report issues with a neighbour's pet. This will help us to build a broader picture of the benefits of pet ownership, but also the things we need to manage well where we allow pets.

What customers tell us will be used to influence our new pet statement in our Tenancy Management policy. We'll keep updating the Our Voice page to show what has changed as a result of your involvement.

** Update 18 October **

Thank you to all of the customers who have given their views in our survey about what pets you think customers should be allowed to keep in their homes, or by telling us about your experience of pets. We've closed this survey and our 'story book' to have a look at what you told us. We'll contact the prize draw winner soon.

The UK is a nation of animal lovers, and lots of people find having a pet is important to them and their wellbeing. But should Great Places allow all customers to have any pet they want? Should we have rules to protect the wellbeing of the animal, and the neighbours who might experience the effects of poor pet ownership?

'Answer our survey' and 'Tell us about your experience of pets' below Our survey will ask you to tell us a little bit about the home you live in and what kinds of pets you think are suitable in different homes. Answer our survey to be entered into a prize draw to win a £50 Love2shop e-gift card.

You can tell other customers why pets are important to you, or why it is important to you that pets are looked after properly by adding your comments. 'Telling us about your experience of pets' will also get you another entry into our prize draw to win a £50 Love2shop e-gift card.

**Prize Draw Terms & Conditions - All completed entries will be entered into a prize draw to win one of three £50 Love2shop e-gift cards. There is no cash alternative available. Please note that tenancy issues may be taken into account when the winners are chosen. All activities will close at 11.59 pm on Wednesday 9 October 2024 and any submissions completed after this time will not be entered into the draw. Winners will be chosen at random and contacted within 15 working days of the closing date.**

I have lived at Cambridge Gardens for thirty six years.

Regarding pets the ruling always was you could have a pet if it was in a cage

e.g. Budgie or some sort of small bird

I feel it would be absolute bedlem if people were allowed to keep dogs or cats

I have had a very bad experience in the past of someone living in the flat underneath

myself this person would go out and leave the poor animal on its own for several

hours the dog whimpered and barked for hours it was not the dogs fault as this... Continue reading

If you live in a flat with communal grounds and a shared entry/exit to your home then no, definitely not.

    The positives:

    Good for mental/physical health.

    The negatives:

Some people don't look after their pets well and animals suffer a great deal with the RSPCA unable to step in, they don't have the powers to do anything to alleviate general suffering of animals.

Dog excrement all over the grounds and/or inside homes and homes smelling of dog excrement and urine as a result which other tenants get the secondary smell of. This is from direct experience where I live.... Continue reading

I grew up with animals, often rescues. I find that with pets, especially cats and dogs they can greatly benefit your health, and tackle loneliness. Provided they are in the right hands and are given enough attention they can be incredibly beneficial. The responsibility of keeping the noise of them is on the owner as part of training them and teaching them that the noise they make is unacceptable, and should be controlled. However, in most cases this is not an issue, and I have never encountered any issues surrounding them. In fact, I feel as if the idea of... Continue reading
