FAQs
Post-live questions
My radiators are not hot enough. What should I do?
Make sure there is nothing leaning/ covering the TRVs i.e. curtains, and check that the thermostat has been correctly adjusted. If the problem still persists, please contact Great Places Hub.
How can I control my heating system?
Your home will have been fitted with a heating programmer that allows you to set the time period for when you want heating on or off. Furthermore, each radiator will have a thermostatic radiator valve (usually abbreviated to TRV). The valves have an inbuilt temperature sensor which make sure that the room is always at your desired temperature. The temperature in each room can be controlled by turning the valve to the desired number - with 3 being the desired setting which will give you heat of 18-20°C.
Where can I find how to use the Guru hub?
You will have received a welcome pack from Sycous which includes more information about the hub.
When did the new metering and billing process begin?
The new process began via the meters in your home in April 2025.
Who are Sycous?
We have appointed Sycous to provide metering management of your heating and hot water. You will make payment to Sycous and payments are later passed to Great Places.
How do I make payment for my bills?
You are able to pay for your bills via direct debit, online card payment, telephone payment, mobile app or a pay point in store payment. To pay in store you can use the barcode on your most recent bill from Sycous or via a payment card sent out to you.
How often should I expect bills?
You will receive a monthly bill which will outline your consumption for the previous month and how much this has cost you. You can keep track of your usage on the Guru hub in your homes.
Pre-live questions
Will I need to do any preparation?
Yes, you will need to remove items from the cupboard that houses your cylinder and, where appliable the loft space too, to insulate the pipework.
When will I be billed via the meters individually?
This is planned for the new financial year 2024/2025. Should this change we will let you know in advance and a further engagement day will be held at the community centre prior to this going live to show you how to use the equipment/meters.
When will the works be completed?
All works are planned to be completed by March 2025- we are hoping to be finished before then.
What will happen if I don’t give access?
This will have a negative impact on the rest of the network and will affect other customers including increased gas consumption, which will lead to a higher tariff.
Will my costs increase?
Great Places set the tariff based on gas costs that are wholesale prices and these savings are passed onto the customer, we have secured our gas prices from October 2024 – Oct 2026 and we aren’t able to make a profit on the tariff.
Will I be given notice of the appointment?
The contractor will call to make the appointment and will give you suitable notice, date and time.
Why has my hot water temperature reduced?
Your hot water temperature has reduced as a result of the installation of the TMV (Thermostatic Mixer Valves). This means showers/baths/taps will operate at a reduced temperature without risk of scalding, in line with building regulations. Building regulations state that the temperature of water into a bath should be no more than 48°C, this also allows for heat loss in metal baths. A comfortable bathing temperature is around 37°C.
How long will the work take?
The planned works will take a full day within your property and will continue across Richmond Park until financial year 2024/2025.
