About HIUs
About HIUs
- It warms up the radiators in your flat, providing cosy heating.
- It also heats up fresh cold mains water, so you have hot water for taps and showers. The HIU also ensures your hot water is set to a comfortable 50°C.
What is an HIU and how does it work?
The HIU is a compact device, similar in size to a small gas boiler (See the picture below). It’s responsible for controlling the flow of heat into your home. Pipes carry heated water from a central source to your flat and this heat has two purposes:
Where will the HIU be?
You’ll find the HIU where a traditional boiler would typically be placed in a flat.
Where is the Heat Meter?
Inside your HIU, you’ll find a heat meter. This tracks your heat usage for individual billing. Plus, it’s connected to a hub called the Guru Hub. This gives you real-time information on how much energy your using.
Billing
How will I be billed for heat usage at Richmond Park once the changes are made?
Once we’ve made all the changes to the heat network your bill will be based on how much heat you use.
How will my new bills be calculated?
Each new Heat Interface Unit (HIU) will connect to a Guru Hub. This will let you see your heat usage, check your balance, and make payments. The Guru Hub will give you more control to monitor your consumption and manage it effectively.
When will this happen?
We’ll start to switch over to this new way of charging for energy at the end of the project Feb 2025 will supply more details on how this will work nearer to the time. We’ll let you know of a start date for the new network from when you’ll no longer pay for the energy via their service charges and will be billed individually for the energy you use.
Please note until the official start date that there will be no changes to how you pay for your heating. We’ll confirm this closer to the time.
